- Some words by the compiler of this disk:
-
-
- Introduction:
- -------------
-
- "Why a CD-ROM for DOOM?" you may ask. Well, when the game was released
- last winter, nobody had expected such an amazing feedback. Soon
- after the initial release programers from all over the world started
- programming utilities for editing levels, graphics and sounds for DOOM.
-
- As I stumbled through several bulletin board systems, I saw hundreds
- of levels and add-on programs for DOOM. After testing some of them, I
- was really surprised by the outstanding qualitiy of the products some
- private programmers and artists created.
-
- Realising that all this stuff would fill more than 80 high density
- disks (still in compressed form) we decided find publish a CD-ROM
- with this stuff on it.
-
- So, here it is! This CD-ROM features more than 900 new levels, 234
- programs, 68 additional sound files, 45 text files and 43 new graphic
- packages.
-
- As an addition, this CD-ROM is BBS aware, ready with a detailed FILES.BBS
- file so you can directly access it.
-
- As a bonus this CD also contains the latest version of the compression
- programs ARJ and PKZIP.
-
-
- New Doom-2 Levels
- -----------------
- We compiled FOUR 27 level sets especially for Doom-2, at the time of
- editing these are the ONLY add-on levels for Doom-2 available.

- Some words about categories:
- ----------------------------
-
- We have divided this compilation (to be found in the directory "\FILES"
- on this CD) into several subjects (or categories).
-
- For a complete file listing of this CD-ROM see the file "FILES.LST" in
- the main directory.
-
- BONUS:
- ------
-
- This directory contains the latest versions of ARJ and PKZIP.
-
-
- GRAPHICS:
- ---------
-
- This directory contains new graphics for DOOM. Usually, these
- packages have an installation program with them. See the enclosed
- documentation in the corresponding directory on more information
- how to use these programs.
-
-
- LEVELS:
- -------
-
- Here you find over 100ß0 directories with new levels and / or
- movie files.
-
- How to install a new level: First, copy the level file(s) to your
- DOOM directory. Now, read the enclosed documentation for the level
- number. This is needed because those files normally just replace
- a single level. As you know, DOOM has 3 episodes with 9 levels
- each. So check for the episode and level number and then run DOOM
- using a command line like this:
-
- DOOM -file xxx.wad
-
- where xxx ist the name of your external level. Once you're in DOOM,
- select New Game and choose the desired episode and - there you are.
- If the level is deeper inside that episode, you have to play until
- you reach it or you have to warp to it. See the DOOMFAQ56 in the
- "TEXT" directory for more information on it.
-
- If you want to play a recorded movie, just do it like this:
-
- DOOM -playdemo xxx.lmp
-
- where xxx is the name of the movie to play.
-
-
- PROGRAM:
- --------
-
- This directory contains add-on programs for DOOM. Please see the
- detailed enclosed documentation for more information on it.
-
-
- SOUND:
- ------
-
- Here you'll find new sounds for DOOM. Please see the enclosed
- documentation for more information on it.
-
- TEXT:
- -----
-
- This directory contains miscellaneous text files about DOOM. Some
- contain information on cheating or give hints for playing, others
- hold information on the format of the WAD files.
